The Hangover Part II Review

Let me just come off the bat and say I really loved the first Hangover movie. To me, this is one of those comedies that I've always wanted to watch that reminded me so much on some of the classic comedies I used to watch from the 90s and early 2000s. This movie had a well written concept, had hilarious running gags, the characters are all brilliant...ly fleshed out (especially the excellent comedic timing of underground comedian Zack Galifianakis) , and of course the movie is excellent as a R-Rated comedy. In the present, the film studios are pressing hard to push the highest rating possible to gain their audience for comedies. Now for the sequel. Now, I'm not gonna try to spoil anything because there are many people out there who go into the second one to be just as funny and great as the first one was. Well, I can't say anything about that because if I do, it makes everyone who reads this review thinking they're not getting what they wanted. I'll just try to explain in my own opinion how I felt about it and I'll try not to spoil anything as best as I can. Now, going into The Hangover 2, I was really hyped on hearing about this one. I had first heard about it when I saw the teaser trailer to it, which to be honest is always the best way to see a preview to a movie, because let's face it, anytime they show full trailers to the audience, they're bound to spoil the whole movie right there. So, I watched the teaser trailer and it got me really hooked. Cause from the look of it, you cant ever guess what's happening, but from what you can gather, the guys from the first movie are at it again with some wacky misadventures. It asks a lot of questions like '"What happened this time?" or "How are they gonna solve this situation", or ''How are they gonna make this one funnier", and so on. When I watched the movie, I asked questions like that. And to my surprise, the movie does have a lot of clever moments with it's plot. This one has some new twists and turns and it seems a bit more raunchier and darker than the first one. The main guys have a lot of charisma as well. While, at times they tend to do a lot of dumb-ass things that would easily get them in a endless situation, the ''Wolf Pack" still do a great job. Zack Galifianakis, Bradley Cooper, Ed Helms, and Justin Bartha have a really solid chemistry together and it was great seeing them back together again. I had a really terrific time watching this one and there were many great jokes that I thought were better than the first one's. However, my only main complaint was that the movie didn't exactly have an original storyline (and I say that very loosely). I wish there was a little more depth to it. I'm not saying that this movie was bad just because it used the same concept and main formula from the first. I'm saying that I wish it could've had that same charm that was from the first one. I will say this though, this one was really funny when they had that cigarette smoking monkey on screen. Now, for my final thoughts: Hangover Part II is a solid comedy with some pretty laugh out loud jokes that come out, but, it's not as great as the first one. Well, maybe if they make a third one, it might just focus on Zack Galifianakis this time since he's the only one of the characters who isn't married. I'd go see it. Overall, on a scale of 1-10, I'd probably give this one a 7/10. Still incredibly hilarious, but, lacks the charm.
