When the first Purge came out in 2013, it really piqued my interest. I loved the concept of the government allowing once a year for crime to be legal and the setting that took place in the future. I'll be honest, I did not really like the first movie. The film wasted potential because 98% of it was just a standard home invasion movie. It had a couple of creepy parts, like the little remote control doll, the masks looked scary and I liked the main leader of the group who was over the top. Needless to say, the characters (including the son and daughter) made some stupid choices and the death scenes weren't that creative either. I felt like it was way too standard, had a lot of padding and didn't pick up until close to the third act. Ethan Hawke was okay but his character was kind of incompetent. I thought Lena Headey was good, though. Overall, I wasn't a fan of this, I'm going to give it a 5/10. What are your thoughts on the first one? Comment below.
