Independence Day: Resurgence (Eddie's Review)

So I watched Independence Day: Resurgence, the sequel to the big box office classic film from 1996 Independence Day which starred Will Smith, Jeff Goldblum, Bill Pullman, Judd Hirsch, Randy Quaid and many other huge celebrities. I remember when this film came out, it was a big deal and a box office movie success. To this day, I find it extremely fun and emotional to watch, especially Jeff Goldblum, Will Smith , and Randy Quaid whom I really enjoyed in that film. I give Independence Day a 9/10. Now going forward 20 years later to this summer of 2016. We get Independence Day: Resurgence, which brings back all of the major cast that survived the events in the first one, except Will Smith who decided to turn down the role due to disagreements. Independence Day: Resurgence features the return of Jeff Goldblum, Bill Pullman, and Judd Hirsch. We are also introduced to a new cast including Liam Hemsworth, Maika Monroe, Jessie T Usher and William Fichtner. 20 years after the devastation the left earth into shambles from a alien attack, the world is preparing to celebrate the 20th year anniversary of winning the war against the aliens. After some small events unfold at a army base on the moon, scientists get word that one of the ships that was left from the events of the war of 1996 is starting to turn back on. While investigating, they learn that a 3,000 mile wide mother ship is heading for earth to seek revenge and to steal all of Earth's resources. Now its up to the scientists and new brave fighters to take the fight to the aliens yet again in this forgettable and non-needed sequel. When I heard this was coming out, I'll admit I was looking forward to this and boy was it a let down. I wouldn't say it's bad, but it's not good either. I had alot of cons. I didn't like that earth is so advanced that it felt like we're in the year 2500. Pretty much, Earth looks like a knockoff of Star Trek or Starship Troopers. I felt like this film was also too padded out so they can reach full the movie time and we don't get into the fighting scenes till an hour into the film. I found the first half to be hit and miss. I didn't care for Liam Hemsworth and Jessie T .Usher (who is playing Will Smith's son). Some of the off screen deaths by some of the classic characters were a slap in the face. I didn't really feel the intensity (all bets are off) that we should get with sequels. We don't get much of the catastrophic damage in this film like we did in part one. As for my pros , I did enjoyed seeing all of the great cast from part 1 that came back aside from Will Smith, who chose not to return. I did like that we got to see more of the aliens, even though some of the CGI was too noticeable. I'm very mixed with the movie trying to explore other universes and trying to learn about other species of aliens that are out into the interstellar universe. I think this sequel wasn't needed at all. It was pointless in my opinion. Independence Day was better as a stand alone film. Like I said before, I didn't think it was bad, but it wasn't good either. Im gonna give it a 5.5/10. You can also check out Justin's review of it on YouTube as well: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZyZJ_AdH0Ho&t=103s
