The Forest Review

Tonight I'm reviewing 'The Forest', directed by Jason Zada that stars Natalie Dormer and Taylor Kinney. We start with a woman named Sara Price (Natalie Dormer) who receives a call from Japan telling her that they think her sister is dead. Sara flies to Japan to look for her. When her tracings lead her to a haunted forest known as the Aokigahara Forest (a forest northwest of Mount Fuji known as a popular destination for suicide), she must enter the wood risking her life to find the truth of her sister's disappearance. When I saw the trailer to this film, I knew it wasn't going to be that good. It was too early in the year and it looked like your typical standard PG-13 ghost movie that we see all the time. That's exactly what it was. This film was SOOO boring during the majority it. The pacing was really bad that it drags so much I almost wanted to fast forward the movie, but I didn't. The characters are boring and the main character played by Natalie Dormer had zero emotion regarding her missing presumed dead sister. She needs some acting classes. It's your typical jump scare PG-13 ghost movie that's neutered away from the violence. I did like the cinematography of the forest which was beautiful. I also thought the twist ending was pretty cool, which was a waste since 97% of the movie sucked. Anyway, I'm going to give 'The Forest' a 3.5/10. I wish we could get some more good ghost movies like The Conjuring films, but most of them end up failing with the soft PG-13 ratings.
