Jason Bourne (Eddie's Review)

Tonight I'm reviewing Jason Bourne, the fifth installment of the series. It was directed by Paul Greengrass (Bourne Supremacy , Bourne Ultimatum, United 93, Green Zone , and Captain Phillips) starring Matt Damon, Tommy Lee Jones and Julia Stiles. A decade after Jason exposed Operation Blackbair and disappeared without a trace, Agent Parsons (Julia Styles) discovers something big that involved Jason Bourne's father and the Treadstone Program. Parson goes on a mission to track down Jason to let him know of her discovery, which brings Jason out of hiding and back into the CIA spotlight after being presume dead. Now, Jason is on the mission to find out the truth in this never should have been made installment to the franchise. I'll admit, I was really looking forward to this. I wanted to relive Matt Damon's Jason Bourne. I was really anxious on what they're going to do next with the story, but it was a major letdown. This movie was extremely disappointing. The trilogy was perfect. It gave us everything we needed to know about Bourne. We watched his journeys and his battles. Ultimatum was a great closure. We really didn't need this film. It leaves the trilogy empty now. I never saw the spin-off Bourne Legacy so I can't judge that one, but this film opens the trilogy that doesn't need to be opened. The plot hashes the same story we had seen in the other Bourne films, mainly Supremacy. Everything he does in this film, I've already seen in the other films. The plot about his father could have been placed in the original trilogy or left out. This movie feels out of place. First, we are led to believe they just suddenly after 10 years, they want to start looking for him again. Another problem I have is HOW MANY FUCKING EMPLOYEES DOES THIS PLACE HAVE TO KEEP SPAWNING VILLAINS THAT WANT JASON BOURNE DEAD? Seriously though, all of the villains are the same in each movie. Also, this film doesn't once try to do something different. I felt like this was just lazy ass writing. Not to forget, we already know who the villains are in the beginning of the film. Here are my pros. I liked that Matt Damon came back. It does feel like a Bourne film. All of the performances were great. I love Tommy Lee Jones, but I felt like he was wasted easily and made me wonder what was really his purpose in the film. I liked the other villain though. The fight scenes were great too. I do like how Jason Bourne looks like he's been to hell and back. Like I said, I love the first 3 films a lot. Jason Bourne was pointless and somewhat of a boring film. I'm going to give this a 5/10.
