Justin here. After so many delays, I finally got a chance to see 13 Hours: The Secret Soldiers Of Benghazi, directed by Michael Bay, starring James Badge Dale, John Krasinski, Max Martini, among others. The film is about the true story of the six men who defended the American diplomatic compound in Benghazi, Libya on September 11, 2012 and are ambushed by terrorists attacks. This is the first film since Pain & Gain that director Michael Bay has made a film that is not based on a popular franchise and I really liked this film. I'm not really into politics that much and surprisingly this film doesn't go deep into the political side of the story as much as it does with being a straight forward action movie, which it succeeds at that. It has really powerful performances by James Badge Dale, John Krasinki (who I've never really been a fan of in the past) and the rest of the team. It also has really brutal action scenes that involve a lot of limbs blown off and they go into great detail with practical effects. The action scenes are really gritty and use some shaky cam here and there, but it still worked for me with how they were trying to go for an authentic feel of the movie. Not to mention, the way the Libyan forces were attacking really surprised me with how they used stealth and were approaching the base. The score by Lorne Balfe was powerful and has a vey moving patriotic theme to it. The story is very gripping and while I could've seen more depth with a few of the soldiers, it did feel very emotional for me in some scenes and I liked where it went. My only real cons were that it took a little while for the story to get going for me and it didn't really need to run over 2 hours, but, those were just minor problems. I really enjoyed this film and it's one of Bay's better movies he's done since Pain & Gain and I'm going to give the film a 8.5/10. I salute and give my respects to all of the soldiers that were involved with Benghazi.
