Blair Witch (2016) (Eddie's Review)

Eddie Williams

Eddie here. Tonight I'm reviewing Blair Witch. It is the third installment to the series about a group of young adults that head out into to the woods of Maryland to help one of their friends look for his sister named Heather, who was the woman from the first film. Much like the first film, things start to go wrong and the young adults are picked off one by one. Now I remember growing up when the first film came out in 1999, it was a big thing prior before it was released in theaters. The promotion for this film was so huge. It had people actually believing it was real footage. There were newspaper articles that actually posted the missing people's pictures. It brought a huge tourist attraction to the town that claimed it happened. This film frightened people bad. They have a documentary about the making of the film that I'm sure you can find on YouTube. After years had passed, people started to hate the film but I still like it for its nostalgic reasons. It's what set off the found footage craze we get now. Then they made that God awful trash part 2: Book of Shadows film, which kind of gets rid of the found footage for an actual movie setting. The only good things about Book of Shadows was the 90s feel, soundtrack, and opening of the film. Other than that, I hated Book of Shadows. Now to my review of this year's Blair Witch. I actually really enjoyed this film. It goes back to its original roots with adding more to the story about the woods and back story of the witch. It also got some blood and we actually see some of the brutal deaths. The best part is the last 30 minutes in the witch's creepy haunted house which kind of reminds me of Evil Dead. Now it does have some flaws with a few annoying cast members, being similar to the original (which is only the first 30 minutes) and some parts move too fast. Overall though, its a pretty solid ghost/horror film. In all honesty, I think it's the best out of the series even though I like the first one. Anyways, I'm going to give Blair Witch a 7.5/10.
