Nerve Review

Eddie Williams

Eddie here. On this Christmas Day, I'm reviewing Nerve, a 2016 thriller based on the novel that came out in 2012. Nerve stars Emma Roberts, Dave Franco and Juliette Lewis. The film is about a popular online dare game in which people give participants anonymous dares for money. If they lose or tell the police anything about the game, they lose all their money and their personal lives are hacked. This film's cinematography is beautiful. I love the neon look to the film, the performances and the concept. Unfortunately, it was very basic and rushed. The dares were very teen-ish up until near the end which kills the intensity of the film. We focus more on the dialogue between Dave and Emma's characters which was good, but at the same time it makes you feel like you're watching a chick flick for 80% of it. The ending does get a bit intense, which was good but very anti-climactic and that was disappointing. Overall, the film is just ok. It's not bad, but not good either. Anyways, I'm going to give Nerve a 6/10. Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to everyone!
