Eddie here. Today I'm reviewing the artsy drama/thriller Nocturnal Animals, starring Jake Gyllenhaal, Amy Adams, Michael Shannon, Isla Fisher and Aaron Taylor Johnson. Amy Adams plays an art gallery owner who receives a book from her ex-husband that she believes symbolizes her as she reads along. I really don't want to go into much more detail with the plot for spoiler reasons, but this story has much more to it. I thought the film was ok. It does have a messy plot at times. If you don't pay 100% attention to this film, you really will get lost as the story goes along. We generally see films where we get a back story mixing with the current story which I do love, but this film kind of does it a little messy. We get a back story of a back story of a back story with the current story which isn't in a particular order and causes some confusion that makes no sense at times. Some of the back stories we do get doesn't even have a purpose to the plot of the film which kind of erupts the flow of it. Some of the characters have no purpose or resolution, which make you question why they are in this film. We get a lot of artistic scenes where we go from one scene of the plot, then it goes to Amy Adams' art gallery, showing paintings. I do get that it's an art film but those scenes felt out of place. Especially when they do it over and over a dozen times. I do have some pros with this film. I loved the Jake Gyllenhaal, Isla Fisher and Michael Shannon plot with the kidnapping storyline. It's very suspenseful and emotional at the same time. I also love everyone's performances and the cinematography was absolutely beautiful. This is one of the best visually stunning films of 2016. I understand people love this film, but it's just ok in my opinion. Anyways, check it out if you haven't seen it yet and I'm going to give Nocturnal Animals a 6/10.
