A Monster Calls Written Review (Eddie's Thoughts)

Eddie Williams

Eddie here and today I'm reviewing A Monster Calls starring Liam Neeson, Felicity Jones, and Sigourney Weaver. A Monster Calls is a 2016 fantasy / drama film about a 12 year old boy named Connor whose dealing with his mother's terminal illness, bullies at school, ungrateful grandmother, and a careless father. Meanwhile, Connor befriends an ancient monster who guides him on a journey through courage, faith, and truth. I did like this film as its a very emotional one. There were great performances by all the cast members and it's nice to see Sigourney Weaver taking on more films today. The visuals and score in this film are also great. I thought the stories that the monster was telling to the boy was pretty cool looking. It has an old folklore drawing look to the story-telling scenes that make you think you're reading a book in your old Elementary school library. With all of my pros with this film, the entertainment value I was a bit bored with. I get what it was doing and I do give it's respect that this film deserves, it just wasn't much of my taste in films. That being said, it's worth checking out and I'm going to give A Monster Calls a 7/10.
