Free Fire - Written Movie Review

Eddie here. Tonight I'm reviewing the 2017 A24 film, Free Fire, directed by Ben Wheatley and stars Brie Larson, Armie Hammer, Cillian Murphy, and Sharlto Copley. Set in the colorful gritty 1970s in Boston, a mysterious business woman Justine (Brie Larson) and her associate Ord arrange a black market weapons deal between an IRA arms buyer Chris (Cillian Murphy) and a South African gun runner named Vernon. What starts out as an easy exchange soon goes south when tensions escalate, quickly leading into a full-on battle where it's every man and woman for themselves. I really enjoyed this film. The performances were really good and I loved the whole Reservoir Dogs / Nice Guys tone to the film. This film is extremely brutal and the cast go through some very painful experiences throughout this film which was great. I also enjoyed the banter back-and-forth between all the cast members, though I did feel like it could have been way more funnier. It didn't have that stand out comedy that we see in these type of films that usually have this kind of material, but overall I still enjoyed what comedy it gave to the viewers. It would of been cool if say, Shane Black would have wrote this. This film is full of great practical effects and the gunshots look very real. I loved the mystery on whose going to walk out alive theme to the film and they have a lot of betrayal between each other so you don't know who's gonna win. As for my cons the film does feel like it has a rinse and repeat tone with the gun battle scenes, but that's mainly in the first half. You end up having a gun battle scene, then they stop and it repeats that same material like 4 times before it finally changes it up. There's times that it's hard to keep up with who is fighting who at the beginning of the battle scenes because the shots move so damn fast which started to bother me but it does fix that later on. I really don't have much flaws with this movie. It's very entertaining to watch and there were a lot of theaters that never got this movie, which was a shame. If your looking for something balls to the wall entertaining, then I do recommend you to check this flick out. I'm going to give Free Fire an 8.5 /10. If you've watched Free Fire, what were your thoughts on it? Leave me a comment below on I'll see you on my next review.
