Atomic Blonde - Written Movie Review (Eddie's Thoughts)

Eddie here. Today I'm reviewing the 2017 action film Atomic Blonde, directed by David Leitch (John Wick) and stars Charlize Theron, James McAvoy, John Goodman, Sofia Boutella, Bill Skarsgard, and among others. Lorraine Broughton (Charlize Theron) is the most elite spy in MI6, an agent who uses all her lethal skills to stay alive during an impossible mission. With the Berlin Wall about to fall, she travels to the heart of Berlin to retrieve a priceless watch containing a list of names and take down an espionage ring. I ended up actually liking this film, not great but it was really good. I enjoyed the entire cast, especially Charlize Theron and James McAvoys' performances. Both were absolutely fantastic in this film. The brutality was great and I thought the fight scenes were choreographed really good. Charlize Theron goes through some brutal stuff in this film. One of my favorite things about this film has to be the whole glowing neo-psychedelic setting with the blend of 80s punk rock design and the soundtrack was done with perfection. I loved the dark blue tint cinematography shots and the camera work by David Leitch was absolutely amazing like he did with John Wick. Like I stated earlier, I enjoyed the soundtrack and I also liked the score. The story in this film is good. It's your typical CIA plot that you've seen many times before, but that really didn't bother me too much. Some scenes do seem repetitive, especially in the first half of the movie. I noticed a small pacing issue in the first half of the film, but it wasn't bad. I enjoyed the twists but some of them you do see coming which was an issue for me. Since David Leitch directed John Wick, I did notice that it felt like he used some of the general plot of that film and spliced it into this one. I wouldn't even be surprised if both films meet up in the future. Now that I think of it, that would be kind of cool. Anyways, I did enjoy this movie and I wouldn't necessarily say that it's stuck out for me but I'd gladly own it and I do recommend it. I'm going to give Atomic Blonde an 8/10. What were your thoughts on this film? Leave me a comment below and I'll see you on the next review.
