Tonight's review is 2017's most controversial film Mother!, directed by Darren Aronofsky (Requiem for a Dream and Black Swan) and stars Jennifer Lawrence, Javier Bardem , Ed Harris, and Michelle Pfeiffer. A couple's relationship is tested when uninvited guests arrive at their home, disturbing their tranquil existence. Now I'm going to have to keep this review very short because this is one of those type of films that every little small detail will spoil the film. I won't be able to talk much about my likes and dislikes; though there will be a video spoiler review of this film coming soon with Justin and I, so stay tuned. I was worried I wasn't going to like this film because I thought it was going to overshadow my taste. Now I know this film got alot of controversy, but frankly I don't care about that. The only thing that matters to me is a good quality film. I havent watched much of Darren Aronofsky. I really enjoyed Requiem for a Dream, but I wasn't much of a fan of Black Swan; though I'm willing to give it another shot in the future. After watching this film, I gotta say, I'm shocked , speechless, and disturbed on what to say. I really enjoyed this film more than I thought I would. It's a very powerful film that you'll have to watch multiple times to truly understand it. If I agree with the message or not, it doesn't matter. To me, this is what you call talented writing, so I highly praise Darren Aronofsky. This film takes disturbing to another level that I've never seen in a film before. It opens up some many possibilities for other talented directors and writers to take risks. I really enjoyed all of the performances from the cast, especially Jennifer Lawrence and Javier Bardem. This is probably one of the best Jennifer Lawrence performances ever. When the film needs its brutality, it doesn't shy away. I do have some flaws with this film as well. Even though I couldn't stop watching, the pacing does drag a lot in parts. It has issues with resolving some of its characters from the first half of the film. Some of the story connections had me somewhat confused, but I'll get it more when I watch it a second time. I can't say anymore or I'll end up spoiling it. Trust me, there are way more pros/cons I'll mention in the video spoiler. I'm going to give Mother a 7.5/10. What were your thoughts on this film? Leave me a comment below and I'll see you on my next review. You can also feel free to check out Justin's spoiler free review of the film as well on YouTube at your convenience:
