Tonight I'm reviewing the 2017 Comedy / Drama film, Wilson, directed by Craig Johnson and stars Woody Harrelson, Laura Dern, Judy Greer, and Cheryl Hines. Feeling lonely and isolated Wilson (Woody Harrelson) tracks down Pippa (Laura Dern), the ex-wife who left him 17 years earlier. Pippa informs Wilson that he's the father of a teenager named Claire. Shocked, excited, and hopeful, Wilson goes on a quest to connect with the daughter he never knew he had. This film was alright. It was really funny, but a bit of a slow burner. Woody Harrelson was absolutely hilarious and very awkward in a good way. He plays a lonely guy whose desperate in finding people to conversate with. He's bit of an old-school kind of guy and hates technology like cell phones and computers. I enjoyed his chemistry with Laura Dern. They both had me rolling. Laura plays an ex-drug addict that lead into her becoming a prostitute but now trying to fix her life. They both are trying to put the pieces back together with their long-lost daughter, whom Laura gave up for adoption 17 years prior. It's a very interesting story that I enjoyed but like I mentioned earlier, it's a very slow burner film. That's where I get to my cons. This film's pacing drags a lot like a roller coaster. At one moment I'm really into the film; the next, I'm getting really bored with it. I was a bit disappointed that there wasn't much of a journey in getting to know their daughter. When they meet her, it's like, "okay. cool. nice to meet you". There isn't much of a complex story being told; a little too straightforward for my pleasure. At times, it feels like there are things missing from the plot and they do a lot of time jumps for certain scenes. Honestly, this film wasn't bad, it's just more forgettable than anything. If it wasn't for the great comedy it had, this film probably wouldn't have been good. I'm going to give Wilson a 5.5/10. What were your thoughts on this film?
