I'm reviewing the 2017 comedy, Snatched, directed by Jonathan Levine and stars Amy Schumer, Goldie Hawn, Ike Barinholtz, Christopher Meloni, Wanda Sykes, and Joan Cusack. Dumped by her boyfriend on the eve of their vacation, Emily Middleton (Amy Schumer) persuades her cautious mother, Linda (Goldie Hawn ) to accompany her on an exotic getaway in South America. When kidnapped, Emily and Linda must find a way to escape through the wild jungles of the Amazon while being chased down by the ruthless kidnapping bandits. This movie was just as I expected , TERRIBLE! Comedies are one of my favorite genres other than horror. Yet, the comedy genre hasn't been all that good in years, maybe producing one or two likeable funny movies, on top of 10 bad ones yearly. One issue is the casting choice as that's the issue with this film. I don't like Amy Schumer at all or find her funny, not one little bit! Going into this was pretty much a bad idea from the get-go. The reason I gave it a shot was due to me liking Goldie Hawn and some of the other cast members that played in this. Man , no one could save this film. I feel sorry for Goldie Hawn because I haven't seen her in so many years and this was her "back to the big screen " debut. Unfortunately, I couldn't stand her performance either because she plays a whiny mother that annoyed the piss out of me. The same for Ike Barinholtz, who I usually find funny in some other films such as Neighbors. Though in this film, he was painfully annoying as hell as well. The plot might have worked if they would've tweaked some of the writing and change the entire cast to more likable comedians. The kidnapping part doesn't happen until 40 minutes into the movie, by then I was painfully bored to enjoy the other half of the film. The film is cheaply made with its green-screen background of the jungle but that's to be expected in comedy films today. Yes, it suffers from your typical comedy movie where crap happens that wouldn't be possible in real life. The villains' purpose for kidnapping them both were extremely weak. It took me 4 1/2 hours to finish this film due to constant pausing and playing on my phone. There was a small heartwarming part with Amy Schumer and Goldie Hawn that was okay. I also didn't mind the small part with Christopher Meloni. The movie could have had potential if they would have cast more likeable actor/actresses as their main characters. I definitely don't recommend it and I'm going to give Snatched a 2/10. What were your thoughts on this film? Leave me a comment below and I'll see on my next review.
