The Commuter - Written Movie Review (Eddie's Thoughts)

*** MINOR-SPOILERS *** Today I'm reviewing the 2018 action / thriller film, The Commuter, directed by Jaume Collet-Serra (House of Wax, Non-Stop, Run All Night, and other films) and stars Liam Neeson, Vera Farmiga, Patrick Wilson, Sam Neill, and Jonathan Banks. Insurance salesman Michael (Liam Neeson) is on his daily commute home. After being contacted by a mysterious stranger, Michael is forced to uncover the hidden identity of a passenger on the train before the last stop. Soon, Michael realizes that he is caught up in a deadly plan of criminal conspiracy that carries life and death stakes for everyone on the train. I found this film to be sub-par average like I predicted it was going to be. With my pros, Liam Neeson and the rest of the cast were pretty good, except for one person which I'll get into with my cons. The action sequences aren't too bad. The mystery of finding the passenger was okay, though I felt like I watched Non-Stop all over again. This film is very watchable, but it feels like it's straight-to-video quality. Onto my cons, I stated earlier that there was one character in this film I couldn't stand. It was the dude that played the "comic relief ". I found that dude to be quite annoying. The plot is very predictable and the story feels very unoriginal. I was really bored for the majority of this film up until the last 25 minutes. I also question a few things,

***MINOR SPOILER WARNING ***

If these people are so powerful as they portray to be in this film, explain why they needed Liam Neeson to do their dirty work when they could've taken out that person and cover it up themselves? I get that they were trying to use him to cover up for the murder, but still, they were pretty powerful from what I was getting. I also felt the ending to be very cheap. Honestly, I thought the ending was pretty bad. Now I wouldn't necessarily call this film a disaster, just very forgettable. What were your thoughts on this film? Leave me a comment below and I'll see you in my next review. Also feel free to check out Justin's video review of the film on YouTube at your convenience as well: https://youtu.be/syUuxd6Uhzg.
