Fifty Shades Freed - Written Movie Review

Eddie Williams

Today I'm reviewing the third and final installment to the Fifty Shades franchise, Fifty Shades Freed, starring Jamie Dornan and Dakota Johnson. Believing they've left the dark past behind from the last film, billionaire Christian Grey and his new wife Anastasia are ready to move on with their lives. Just as the Greys begin to step into their new roles, sinister events come to light and jeopardize their marriage. I don't normally watch these types of films but since I've seen the previous two with my girlfriend and I've reviewed the last two, I decided to go ahead and finish off the series. Now if you're familiar with me reviewing the last two films, you'll know that I didn't like neither of them and as expected, this film was absolutely horrible. The only pro I liked was the cinematography was beautiful. This film was very tone deaf and an editing nightmare. It went from its typical romantic/sexual exploitation scenes to a serious thriller. It's kind of hard to take the film seriously when you've got a stalker trying to kill you and then you have sex the next scene! The thriller part is only focused on maybe 10 minutes at most; same issues with the last film. Speaking of the last film, this film's format was an exact carbon-copy of Fifty Shades Darker. I don't know if I've ever seen a film become so lazy that it felt like it needed to copy everything from the previous sequel without it being a reboot. What can I say about the performances? I've never cared about Dakota Johnson or Jamie Dornan's characters so that alone took me out of the later sequels. The sex scenes are the exact same from the previous films; almost as if they were scenes that were cut from the last two films. Thank god I'm finished with this trilogy and I'll never have to go back to it again. Definitely one of the worst trilogies out there. What I don't understand is how these books had a huge cult following. Maybe the books were better and it just doesn't work on film, but I don't know because I've never read them. I guess you can say, I'M FREED! I'm going to give Fifty Shades Freed a Flatline grade on the Film Phreeks meter. What were your thoughts on this film and the other two previous movies? Leave me a comment below and I'll see you on the next review.
