I'm reviewing the 2018 Wes Anderson film, Isle Of Dogs, starring Bill Murray, Jeff Goldblum, Bryan Cranston, Ed Norton, and among others. When, by an executive order, all the canine pets of Megasaki City, Japan are exiled to a garbage-dump called Trash Island, a twelve-year-old old boy named Atari sets out on a journey in search of his bodyguard dog, Spots. With the assistance of a pack of dogs, Atari sets out on an adventure that will decide the fate and future of the entire canine colony. Unfortunately, I didn't get a chance to see this in theaters. I am a huge stop motion / Claymation film fan. No matter what the story is, I'm always interested when a film goes with that direction. I'll admit, I'm not much of a Wes Anderson fan. I'm not saying he makes bad movies, I'm just not much a fan of his style. After seeing this, it's a pretty good movie, but it has some flaws. I absolutely love the stop motion and I think it's probably my favorite thing about this film. I thought Wes Anderson did it fantastic job on the story and camera structure. It's almost like he's telling a story out of a book. It's narrated like one too. Courtney B. Vance did a great job narrating the story; which is funny because he sounds so much like Morgan Freeman when telling the story. It does have a political plot which I thought worked well with the story where dogs are basically being exiled on a island based off of propaganda by a dude that's running for mayor because the dogs got sick. Then you have this resistance group trying to stand up for the canines while trying to recover evidence to prove that the pre-elected mayor is evil. I absolutely loved the cast in this film playing the dogs. There were scenes that were pretty funny, especially the scenes with Jeff Goldblum. I also got into the heartwarming moments with the twelve-year-old boy and his connection he has with the dogs. I do have one big complaint. While I did enjoy the movie overall, there were times I did get pretty bored. Other than that, it was a good movie.
