Today I'm reviewing the 2018 Blumhouse horror film, Truth Or Dare, directed by Jeffrey Clark Wadlow (Never Back Down, Kickass 2) and stars Lucy Hale and Tyler Posey. Olivia and her friends travel to Mexico for one last getaway before graduation. While there, a stranger convinces them to play a harmless game of Truth or Dare. When playing the game, it awakens a demon which forces the friends to either play the game or die. I knew this film was destined to be crap. Do I need to remind anyone of the past PG-13 horror films? They always end up being trash. If you've seen films such as Paranormal Activity, Wish Upon, The Bye Bye Man, My Soul to Take, etc., then you've practically seen this movie. It's the exact same damn format. The only pro I'd give this film is that the concept is ok and the cinematography was clear-cut beautiful; though, that's to be expected with Blumhouse. The cast are something out of an MTV-made series, which is funny since some of the cast members in this play on MTV's Scream series. They weren't as annoying as I thought they were gonna be, but the acting definitely wasnt good at all. The demon couldn't be anymore standard! Even the demon's backstory was so bland. He practically was risen back in the day for some reason to get back at a twisted priest. Yes, that's his lame backstory. The writing was godawful, like as if the director had a teenage kid and that kid gave their dad a script to make this movie. I was quite bored too and damn near dozed off a few times. Everything in this film was so uninteresting that I didn't care what was going on. The truth and dares in this film were okay, but the PG-13 rating prevented it from being creative. The film does get away with showing some violent deaths, but those kill scenes had some really bad CGI. Speaking of which, those smiles on the peoples' faces were cringe-worthy as hell that it had me laughing more than anything. The ending was very underwhelming and makes you hate the main character that you're supposed to root for. I definitely don't recommend this trash.
Final Grade:
